The Role

Adarga is a rapidly scaling up organisation and we are growing our Data Science Department. Your role is to work with our team of Data Scientists to manage the effective delivery of our core data science product teams and our broader research and development teams.

As the manager of our Data Science department, you will report to the Director of AI and work closely with the VP of Product and Engineering Managers. You will be responsible for enabling and guiding the near-, mid- and long-term vision of our data science technology. You will be responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day activities of our Data Science teams. This is a hands-on management role that requires a delicate balance between management skills, technical knowledge and the ability to translate technical vision into viable capability.

Job requirements

What will you be doing?

  • Lead, manage and mentor our data science teams to enable effective delivery against our core-product and broader technology goals.
  • Engage with key stakeholders in the senior management to develop day-to-day working plans for the delivery of our data science capability.
  • Understand the broad technology goals and break these down into key technology requirements for the data science teams.
  • Plan, manage and coordinate the business process changes to enable the development of key technology solutions.
  • Mentor data science individuals to enhance the team’s ability to deliver against the core technical goals of Adarga.
  • Facilitate the development of cutting-edge technology and contribute to enabling Adarga and its data scientists to continue to be recognized as national leaders in Artificial Intelligence.

Essential

  • Strong experience of delivering data driven solutions within technically challenging applications.
  • Demonstrable experience of having delivered Data Science and/or Machine Learning solutions against previously unsolved challenges in commercial environments.
  • Experience in MLOps being an advocate for translating Data Science technology into product capability.
  • Experience of building and managing teams of scientists and engineers.
  • Strong communications skills, willingness to share experience and the ability to influence design choices.


Desirable

  • BSc or MSc (PhD preferred but not essential) in a STEM field as AI, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Computer Science, Maths or Physics.
  • Understanding of Knowledge Graphs and LLM’s.
  • Experience of the Defence, Security and Intelligence domains.
  • Existing government security clearance (SC) or willingness to obtain it.
  • Have openly published work either in academic or industrial articles or published open-source code.
  • Experience of supporting an applied science function.
  • Demonstrable experience and knowledge of cloud software engineering practices (specifically, cloud native development practices) within a product led environment.
